The Pismo Clam fishery has returned in greater numbers than ever before. Pismo Beach, California is so thick with clams it's hard to stick a fork or shovel into the sand. For those who are unfamilliar with these clams, they live in the surf zone on the shores of central Califorornia with the largest concentration at Pismo Beach, California. They are one of the most delicious clams you will find and the only way you can get them is to sport harvest them yourself. They are not allowed to be commercially taken. California fishing regulations require: -A California Fishing license for individuals 16 and older. -Each person MUST carry their own FIXED measuring gauge (what we are selling in this listing!) -Each person MUST have thier own container for clams they harvest. Co-minging harvested clams is illegal. -Undersized clams must be re-buried, it is the law. -You may only take clams from 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset. -Limit is 10 clams. About our gauge: -Laser cut from 1/4" thick aluminum - will not bend -CNC machined opening for an accurate measurement (other gauges may not be precice - don't get caught taking undersized clams. -Our gauge is the only gauge with a curve machined in the back side so it aligned to the handle of your digging tool and stays firmly attached. -Our design is patterned after the Pismo Clam gauges that everyone used in the 1950's to 1990's. Why? Becuase they work! Pismo clams are relatively easy to harvest with the right gear and a little planning. -Get your kit together so you are legal - don't get fined by Fish and Game -If you are willing to get wet, any tide below +3 feet you will be able to get an easy limit. -If you only want to get your toes wet, then you will need to plan your clamming for a tide that is less than +.5 feet. -A pitch fork is the best tool for finding and digging the clams (watch the video) -A gauge that attaches to the Pitch fork (like ours) is important if you are in the surf (which is fun) -A divers catch bag is the best receptical, buckets tend to get washed away. -Get out there and get some clams!
